Cheryl Hetherington

President

Residing in Marquis since 2001, Cheryl has become quite the fearless leader! With five children and ten grandkids, her house is like a bustling train station with snacks and hugs on demand

While most people struggle to keep their plants alive, Cheryl's garden thrives like a jungle on steroids. Her tomatoes are so plump, they have their own gravitational pull, and her zucchinis are rumored to have taken over a neighboring shed. She's so generous, she makes Santa look like a penny-pincher, sharing her garden bounty with the whole community.

In her “down time” she is making quilts faster than you can say "snug as a bug." Her quilts are so cozy, they have their own fan club, complete with monthly meetings and embroidered membership cards.

If enhancing lives was an Olympic sport, Cheryl would be on the podium, waving her tomato-stained gardening gloves like a victory flag. So if you're ever in Marquis and in need of a laugh, a squash the size of your head, or a quilt that feels like a warm hug, just follow the scent of freshly turned soil and the sound of laughter – Cheryl's got you covered!

Lynn Froehlich

Meet Lynn, the heart of the farm and the soul of the community. Thirty years ago, she married into a farm family, bringing her warmth and compassion to the rural landscape. Retiring from nursing, Lynn now channels her energy into enriching the lives of those around her.

You'll often find her strolling along country roads, her faithful dog by her side, or pedaling through the peaceful countryside on her bike. Lynn savors the tranquility of rural life, finding solace in the quiet moments and the beauty of nature.

But don't let her peaceful demeanor fool you—Lynn is a pillar of strength and support for her community, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Whether it's organizing local events or simply being there for her neighbors, Lynn's kindness knows no bounds. In a world that's constantly buzzing, Lynn is a gentle reminder to pause, breathe, and appreciate the simple joys of country living.

Lynda Thul

Lynda is the heartbeat of Marquis, a local legend who has woven herself into the fabric of the community over the years. Having called Marquis home for most of her life, she's witnessed the neighborhood's every twist and turn, serving as a trusted guide through its evolution.

At the heart of Lynda's endeavors lies her unwavering dedication to the church. She's not just a member of the congregation; she's instrumental in its day-to-day operations, lending her time and talents to ensure its smooth functioning.
But Lynda's contributions extend far beyond the church walls. Every Wednesday, she's the mastermind behind the beloved coffee gatherings, where neighbors come together to share stories, laughter, and perhaps a few crumbs of gossip. With Lynda at the helm, these gatherings have become a cherished tradition, fostering a sense of camaraderie that transcends the boundaries Marquis.

In Marquis, Lynda is more than just a resident – she's a pillar of strength, a beacon of community spirit, and a reminder of the power of connection. Through her tireless efforts and boundless generosity, she continues to shape the fabric of Marquis, weaving threads of love and unity that bind its residents together.

Shawn Slaght

Alright, gather 'round, folks, and let me tell you about our buddy Shawn - the journalist extraordinaire who's got more stories than the library's got books!

So, Shawn here is like the ultimate prairie wanderer. He's been around more towns than your grandma's been around knitting needles! Started out in good ol' Kindersley, then thought, "Hey, why not spice things up?" and jetted off to Calgary. But wait, that wasn't enough adventure for Shawn. He decided to take a breather in the scenic beauty of Banff - probably got tired of skyscrapers and needed some mountain air!

But did he stop there? Nope! Shawn's like a tumbleweed in a windstorm, rolling through Weyburn and Regina like he's on a mission. And guess what? His final destination? Marquis, folks! That's right, he landed here in 2014, and we've been trying to keep up with him ever since!

Now, you might think Shawn's all about those hard-hitting news stories, but let me tell you, he's just as passionate about his sports as he is about his headlines. You can catch him cheering for his favorite teams like it's the end of the world - seriously, the guy's got more team jerseys than he's got socks!

But here's the kicker - when Shawn's not out there chasing the next big scoop or screaming at the TV during a game, he's at home with his wife and their three feline furballs. Yup, you heard me right - three cats! I guess Shawn figured, "Why have one cat when you can have a whole pride?"

So there you have it, folks - Shawn, the journalist with more towns under his belt than a map, a sports fan with more passion than a coach, and a cat dad with more whiskers than... well, you get the idea! Here's to you, Shawn - keep spinning those yarns, cheering for those teams, and snuggling those cats!

Ladies and gentlemen, gather 'round and let me introduce you to Leigh - the one-woman powerhouse who's making creativity her middle name and turning life into one big, beautiful canvas!

Now, picture this: Leigh's like the Picasso of pixels, the Da Vinci of design. She's crafted more websites than a spider spins webs, and she does it all with the finesse of a master chef baking a soufflé. Photoshop? Oh, she can wield that magic wand like a wizard casting spells, turning ordinary images into works of art that'll make your eyeballs dance!

But wait, there's more! Leigh's got a family tree that's more sprawling than the Amazon rainforest! Eight kids, folks! That's right, eight! And with sixteen grandkids running around, she's like the conductor of a wild symphony, keeping all those little maestros in tune and on time.

And here's where the plot thickens: her husband's off on a wild adventure, turning their house from an old church into a modern-day masterpiece. He's laying bricks, hammering nails, and doing all that handyman stuff, while Leigh? Oh, she's the maestro of the paintbrush, turning that old church into a home that'll make the angels sing!

But that's not all, folks! When Leigh's not busy being the queen of the digital realm or orchestrating family chaos, she's in the kitchen, whipping up culinary delights that could make Gordon Ramsay blush! Whether it's for her army of offspring, her gaggle of grandkids, or the whole darn community association, Leigh's got the recipe for success and the oven mitts to prove it!

So here's to Leigh - the web warrior, the Photoshop phenom, the family maestro, the renovation virtuoso, and the culinary queen! Frank Michel

Meet Frank, the man with more tools than a hardware store and more stories than a library! Hailing from Regina, his childhood was a mix of muddy boots, bickering chickens, and trying to outsmart stubborn cows on the family farm. If you think he's just a humble farmer, think again!

Following in the footsteps of his dad and grandpa, Frank became a master of stone and stucco. He could turn a pile of rocks into a palace and a bucket of cement into a work of art. With 48 years in construction and electrical trades under his belt, he's the guy you call when your house needs a facelift or your wiring needs a pep talk.

But retirement for Frank wasn't about rocking on a porch; it was about tackling the ultimate challenge – the Mt. Everest of fixer-uppers, a colossal old church building. It's so big, it's got its own weather system, and Frank's determined to make it shine brighter than a disco ball at midnight.

When he's not scaling scaffolding or wrangling wires, you can find Frank treading the boards of the area's community theater scene. From melodramas to musicals, he's the leading man who can turn a stumble into a show-stopping dance move.

So if you need a builder with a twinkle in his eye and a joke up his sleeve, or an actor who can make you laugh until your sides hurt, Frank's your guy. Just be prepared for a journey that's equal parts laughter, sweat, and probably a little bit of swearing – he's a legend in the making, one brick at a time!

Angela Shaw

Meet Angela, the pint-sized chihuahua enthusiast with a heart bigger than her love for tacos—no small feat!

When she's not corralling her tiny canine squad, you'll find her rolling the dice and dominating the bunco scene, where luck and laughter go paw in paw.

She possesses a unique passion for painting, though her canvas of choice lies not within the confines of a frame, but upon the walls and buildings she encounters. With every stroke, she breathes vibrancy into the world around her, leaving behind traces of her creative spirit.

But the real highway robbery happens when Angela hits the road. She's practically the Lewis and Bark of the asphalt jungle, with her chihuahuas riding shotgun. Watch out, world—Angela's bringing laughter, love, and a colorful splash to every corner, one highway at a time!

Our mission is to engage local people and empower them to get involved and meet the needs of our community. We will foster strong leadership and a culture where every member is valued, and caring towards people and the environment is evident. Marquis community… We are stronger when we come together. We are a people connected and proud to call this our home!

Our aim is to build infrastructure and to facilitate physical activity, drawing people towards outdoor living and encouraging human connection. We are committed to building resiliency. We are passionate about helping counter issues of physical and mental health and finding solutions.

We desire to enhance life not only for the village, but for the broader community. Partnering with this long-standing agricultural community, joined with the demographics of today, we are poised to set the stage for a thriving rural community where opportunity grows and flourishes economically, socially and spiritually.
